White Matted

White Matted
How can I get black smudges off white walls?

The walls in my apartment are a white matte paint. Which means if you was them with water they creates worse smudges then when you started. I even tried the Magic Erasers….they work great to rid walls of pen and marker marks but it too leaves smudges!!!! What to do what to do….any suggestions???
The smudges are from my two boys and I have to get permission to paint and only allowed a certain paint…it’s a pain.

I agree with the people who say you need to re-paint the walls. But I’d like to add that you’ll need to use primer first or you’ll get bleed through.

I would also steer clear of the matte paint and use Eggshell finish. Eggshell is has a very gentle sheen and it’s easier to clean marks from it. Many marks clean off with plain water.

If you plan to switch colors, ask your landlord for permission first and get it in writing if you can…even just a little note with the date on it.

One last tip:

For rooms that don’t have much light, use a mid-tone. Light colors always look dirty in a low-light room. And if you paint a low-light room dark, it looks like a cave. The solution is a mid-tone. Pick a color somewhere in the middle of the paint card…not the colors at the very top or the very bottom.
