topic ideas for a history paper ? (WWII in america)?
From my paper:
“The fighting in World War II was experienced first-hand by relatively few Americans; most Americans had to rely on the press (newspapers, magazines, radio) for information about the war. Therefore, the press helped create an image of the war and helped define its meaning. Your assignment is to analyze a specific episode, comparative issue, or theme in the wartime press.”
We are also asked to…
1.Compare personal accounts of combat
2.Compare reporting at two different points in the war
3.Focus intensively on one particular episode using a number of different press sources
4.Look more generally at how the war filtered into American culture. You could look at wartime themes in advertisements, ads and reviews of war-related films, editorials about the war, and so on. Or you could explore how specific groups reacted to the war by reading more specialized publications
This paper is suppose to be making an argument.

this is a pretty detailed question. I am going to stick to the main question you posted “Topic ideas for a History paper?”.
Topic:
During the early stages of the war the American populace was both angered and scared. Angered at what the Japanese got away with at Pearl Harbor; scared in that now they had to confront an enemy in the Pacific all the while having war declared upon us by Germany and Italy. It was during this early stage that one Lieutenant Colonel James H. “Jimmy” Doolittle would provide an immediate boost for morale with his 30 second Raid on Tokyo (18 April 1942). Quite an amazing story. I will provide a link to a book that you can review of sorts and get this from your local library.
To #4 (above) I would suggest you consider the Bond Sales to the American Public. This is how the wars were paid for in a time when the Government had little opportunity to borrow against future generations. War hero’s were coming home and going on Shows across the country with actors/actresses of the day and showing their medals and telling their stories. They did this to garner sales of American War Bonds thereby raising money to build the guns, tanks, ships, and airplanes and all the associated munitions to boot. By December 1944 the USA alone had over 100 U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers for example.
