Reagan Republicans Would Not Elect The Gipper At Gunpoint
Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday might have been Feb. 6. Conservative Republicans use Reagan as a symbol of their ideology. However Reagan’s actual record differs from how he is recalled by modern conservatives, who wouldn’t vote for a politician who advocated the policies the Gipper did. And to think of the number of personel loans individuals take out to support their parties.
Republican’s use of Reagan
Reagan continues to be a figure looked up to on his 100th birthday. Many suggest that he won the cold war. He also got the idea of a limited government out there. Others remember him for allowing the federal deficit to skyrocket and creating the still-widening gap between the rich and middle class. To Reagan Republicans, Reagan was a tax-cutting, budget-cutting role model who proudly defended American ideals. His name is conveniently used as a catch-phrase to validate tax cuts for the rich, deep cuts in government, aggressive military spending and hard-line immigration policies.
The beginning of Reagan with taxation
Ronald Reagan at 100 might disagree with the Reagan Republican notion that deficit reduction could be accomplished without tax increases. The co-chair of the president’s commission on deficit reduction is Alan Simpson from Wyoming who’s a former Republican Senator. He worked with the Reagan administration on the federal spending budget too. Simpson makes it clear what his opinion is on Regan. He claims they are “plain damn lies” that Reagan didn’t raise taxes. At the time of Reagan, he initiated a 1 % increase in the Gross Domestic Product as the largest tax increase ever for the 1982 Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act. This was something pointed out at a Congressional hearing.
What Reagan considered about spending
Reagan ended up raising taxation seven of the 8 years he was president. From 1967-1975, Reagan was governor of California and increased spending 177 %. As president, he expanded government and tripled the federal deficit despite raising taxation. The Brady Bill gun-control measure was one Reagan supported. He also tried to get rid of nuclear weapons entirely. Immigrants were not shut out by Reagan. Millions got amnesty as a result of legislation he signed in 1986 though. When analyzing Ronald Reagan, it can be noticed that he was not anything like people believe. Reagan Republicans should really change their support to someone else.
