If you witnessed a lynching back before civil rights but did not do the actual lynching are you not guilty?
Think about it. Back then a lynching was an event. Hundreds of people went to these things. They sold postcards of it. Family night out-”cmon kids were going to a lynching”. And these same people went to church and thought they were Christians. Hellbound or not.
I know already if i “ask Jesus for forgiveness” bit. I think its a bit more complex than that.
That all depends on where you are standing during the lynching.
If you are hiding in the bushes, watching your friend being murdered, but afraid to stand up for fear of being “next”, then NO, not guilty. You are just a sad witness.
If you are in the audience, voicing your approval of the murder, then you ARE at least guilty of complicity, if not actually being an accomplice.
Since the death of Princess Diana of Wales, such activities are also prosecutable as a crime. Those who refuse to take action are found guilty of “criminal callousness”, or something like that.
