What would it cost me to get tooling made?

I want to produce an auto part not made in decades badly needed by restorers. Many companies sell other repro parts, probably made in china. Will a local stamping co. make tooling to reproduce these parts for me? What steps should I take after finding a stamping co?I am sure there is an initial start up cost to cover tooling.Material would be thin stainless steel like what is used for wheel opening mouldings (but not this part) I will need another part cast and plated.Anyone in this industry reading this? Thanks
The first part is a trim pc,about 10” long v shape with curled edge, guess not worth the start up cost. With that cost,I was told china is the best place to go.Tell a co there what part you want, and a $5000 order starts the production,I’ll go that way. Thanks for the info

You haven’t mentioned what or how big the part is you are making, but a punch & die set for even a small part can run you $20,000 just for the tooling. If the part is flat, you can have it laser or waterjet cut & thus avoid the upfront tooling cost.
