Turn Your Passion For Photography Into Profits
Are you a photography buff? Do you take your Canon digital SLR camera with you wherever you go and fill it up with photographs? If so, why do you just leave them there gathering digital dust in your hard drive? Why not share them with the world and even make some money while you’re at it?
Do you think that professional photographers were born professionals? Like you, they got the photography bug, but they got it bad. They decided to dedicate themselves to photography because it was all they wanted to do.
Perhaps you think that you have to go ‘the whole nine yards’ in order to deserve to make money at photography. You’re probably right. A professional by definition is a person who makes something his profession. He perfects his skill and devotes most of his waking hours to practicing and promoting that skill.
You don’t have to be a professional to make some money on the side, though. There’s a hunger for unique photographs and people are willing to pay for them. Even an unlikely snapshot, like the time you caught a couple of kids using their mother’s kitchenaid hand mixer to mix up a batch of mud cookie dough. You took a quick shot before you brought their activities to their mother’s attention.
There is not another photograph in the world quite like that. What kind of price tag do you put on it? It’s up to you, but you can offer the reprint rights or sell the photograph outright through a website that offers content to publishers and advertisers. Maybe the Canon SLR camera company would want to use it in an advertising campaign or the Kitchenaid company would want to buy it for their product promotion.
Another way you could make extra money with your photographs is if you take your camera with you when you travel. Travel magazines are always hungry for content. When you return home, write a short article about your vacation and submit it along with some photographs to some newspapers and magazines. You may be pleasantly surprised. You can make money from both your story and your photographs.
You could end up getting the price of your airline ticket or more as payment, if your article and photos are good enough. It’s certainly worth a try.
If you’re looking for ways to make a little extra money on the side, the answer could be staring you in the face. Your digital photographs are worth money. Believe in yourself and the value of your work. Show it off. You deserve to get paid for your creativity.
