Some Of The Great U.S. Commemorative Coins Around Today
The U.S. Commemorative coins were created to celebrate and honor certain people throughout American history. These are also issues for places, events, as well as institutions. However, it all depends on the magnitude of influence they provided to the general public throughout history. It’s a collection of sorts and when they are released it comes with a limited-time structure
Some of the coins are hard to find if they didn’t have as many minted. Those who are just getting started will find certain cards are hard to find.It all has to do with the supply and demand the collectors present. Here is a list of the most popular United States commemorative coins by year:
There was a buzz amongst collectors in 2011 when the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coin Program was released. You can choose between the gold or silver coin option. Both of them provide a unique approach to this piece. The gold coin uses the original Medal of Honor introduced back in 1861 on the front. If you look at the silver coin it has Medal of Honor medals from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
One thing to understand is that the gold coin is $5 and the silver coin is $1.The reverse side of these coins present different variations as well.Minerva is present with a Union flag in one hand and a shield in the other. This is the perfect way to bring the past and present together. The silver coin shows us an infantry soldier carrying a wounded soldier to safety. Both of them cannot truly be appreciated until you see the visual view.
Another popular choice was the 2009 Abraham Lincoln commemorative coin.Even though most people believe he was a great president, the issuance of 500,000 commemorative coins had a major impact. The image of Lincoln is shown from the excerpt of the Gettysburg Address. You could also find other popular choices throughout the 21st century, but there are plenty of older ones as well.
In 1926 the Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar was introduced.Today they can be worth a healthy amount of money, even if they are considered worn. This is if you’re considering the original investment of one dollar. The Oregon Trail was an important part of American history and will always be apart of the educational process for youngsters around the country.
The Hawaiian Sesquicentennial Half Dollar has also been a popular option.Overall there were 10,008 minted.Juliet May Fraser designed the coin that is also responsible for the Oregon Trail design. These were minted in 1928.
Then of course; who can forget the 1899 Lafayette Dollar. While it was dated as being made in 1900, it was the first coin to have the president on it (G.W.).It was also the only coin that had its name on the design (Lafayette Dollar). Then of course it had the president on both sides of the coin for the first time.
More modern coins such as the America the Beautiful quarters are also popular like the Yosemite National Park quarter. You may also be interested in the US Territory Quarters such as the District of Columbia quarter.
