and Why did he support the confederate flag and then change positions before he ran for president the firt time.

Is this reflective of how he feels about the concerns of minorities and equal rights in America?
It becomes difficult when you begin creating national holidays in honor of one person. Most holidays honor a group of people….i.e. presidents day, fathers day, labor day, veterans day etc. When we begin developing holidays for every member of our society who has greatly contributed to the advancement of our society, we will create a society that never works. I believe that the contributions of MLK were very important, but holidays such as Columbus Day or MLK Day should be heavily scrutinized. I believe that we should have a “Hall of Fame” similar to the one in Canton OH to honor those such as MLK / Columbus, not through holidays…I bet McCain feels the same way.
Why don’t we have a LBJ day, as his administration passed more legislation to assist the rights of minorities than any other president or individual (other than Pres Lincoln)?
Regarding the confederate flag, many people feel that it supports their heritage. They may have had ancestors who served with the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Their support of the confederate flag may help them remember their ancestors. McCain probably feels that the original purpose of the Confederate flag was to celebrate heritage unfortunately some idiots have used the confederate flag to represent a racist ideology. I believe that McCain understands that the flag is historic and has is more of a symbol of heritage than anything else. This symbol has been in place way before some racists idiots used it in an unfortunate manner.
Has Obama publicly renounced the support of the KKK? Probably not because it is not worth either candidates time and effort to even address such a racist organization.
McCain has voted for affirmative action programs on numerous occassions. He also voted to provide government funds to minority and women in America to start up privately owned businesses. He has also crossed party lines to stick up for minority and equal rights legislation when many other Republicans were afraid to do so.
