Help with this history question about the chinese civil war after WWII?

At the end of China’s civil war, the United States refused to accept the communist People’s Republic of China as China’s true government. What were the advantages of such a policy? What were the disadvantages? Do you agree with this decision? Why or why not?

The US had supported the KMT under Chiang Kia Shek for years. His theoretical policy was to form a country based on the same principles as the US. However his government was corrupt and ineffectual. He fought the communists as much as the Japanese. The US had already fallen out with the USSR and didn’t want another Communist state hence prolonged support for the KMT. However the communists in China offered the population what they wanted just as Lenin had – peace, food and land, compared to the known evils of corruption, famine, landlords and war. Had the US recognised Mao it may have made a difference – especially in the Korean war and perhaps Vietnam, but at the time they made the decision they thought was right.
