How critical weres Bacon’s Shays’ and the Whiskey Rebellions in shaping America?
Three early uprisings were sparked by economic and political grievances against authority that was percieved as arbitrary and distant. How critical were these rebellions in shaping the development of America before the Civil War?
This question confuses the hell out of me. Any help?
The short answer is that collectively the Shay’s and the Whiskey Rebellions strengthened the central government of the United States in the early days of the country. They tested the will of the central government and required reaction by the leadership to put down the open challenge to the authority of the U.S. government.
Bacon’s is more or less the first revolt against authority in the new world, I believe.
