Festivals And Fun On The Isle Of Wight
Think of Isle of Wight, and what images do you see in your mind’s eye? What I see are: rugged cliff tops regions, rolling hills and of course the sheep grazing in the valleys. IOW, in a world where natural landscapes are rare, retains a certain charm and simplicity. It could account for the fact that visitors numbers are exceeding 2.6 million per year!
Getting to the island has never been simpler. The Isle of Wight has two ferry services, from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry.
There is something for everyone in this country, castles, plenty of wide open spaces and a great choice of adventure sports for all levels. Another fascinating option when considering things to do on the Isle of Wight, is exploring the cliff top walks and local beaches.
The country’s past has been rich and full of drama, with poets, musicians and royalty amongst it admirers. The small country boasts a famous castle (Carisbrooke), built between the 10th and 18th centuries and displaying an enormous range of both ancient and modern architectural styles. In addition to castles, Isle of Wight also boasts a number of festivals including the famous Festivals 2011 and Bestival. And while you’re soaking up the historic atmosphere, you might as well drop in to any of the many art galleries or Museum to get a glimpse of island culture.
If checking out IOW history is not your idea of perfect Isle of Wight vacation, there is plenty of scope for indulging in all sorts of adventure sports. There are many activities on offer including hiking, kayaking, surfing and bike riding.
The ideal holiday though, is one that will allow you to set your own pace. Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight are the perfect location for a lazy vacation when you decide to do as little or as much as you fancy. A cottage, unlike a hotel, lets you make your own decisions and plans and removes the need to worry about other people and their habits. It’s a great way to spend some quality time with family or friends, away from jobs and the stress of normal life.
