Nothing To Be Crabby About
Little River, playing home to the majority of crustaceans, located next to the North Carolina border nestled on the South Carolina coastline and is around twenty miles north of Myrtle Beach, SC. The fishing village has been the refuge for lots of people from pirates to smugglers to Civil War blockade runners over the past years. An annual festival in the honour of the Atlantic blue crab is held and is well-regarded as the rakish favorite. This is not terrible for the critter bearing in mind its fate is to end up inside a boiling hot pot.
The 1st ever festival held in 1981 began with only a few vendors stationed below the splendid live oaks that line Little River’s waterfront. Over the recent years, this has grown into among the foremost seafood festivals in the southeast area of the country. With over 50,000 visitors, the festival has acquired its popularity for assorted experiences of crab dishes – crab cakes, crab balls, crab-on-a-stick, and one of the most famous crab the purists’ way – steamed and spicy.
One of several frequent visitors of the Blue Crab Festival, Amanda Leath from Myrtle Beach describes it to have many different types of food and her preferred being the area’s favorite delicacy of soft shell style of crab and the season for this meat kicks off in May. Her and her family have been attending the event for the past 15 years.
If crab does not tickle your fancy, don’t worry! There’s ample of low country food specialties on hand. They have shell-crab soup together with alligator on the stick. There also is a superb seafood section adjacent to one of the restaurants by the water,” says Leath. It’s also possible to discover the usual event fare food such as pizza and funnel cake available.
Over time the festival has broadened to offer a kid’s activity area, a 5K run, a motorcycle poker run, a petting zoo including a beauty pageant. You’ll find unlimited ongoing entertainment and arts and crafts vendors all round the region line of Little River’s narrow streets.
The Little River Blue Crab Festival is often held on the weekend after Mother’s day. Both daylong event is known as “The South’s Great Street Festival,” is now recognized as a local institution. Leath depicts it as a place where you are guaranteed to run into somebody you haven’t seen in years and the crowd has a mixture of people and lots of tourists that go to Myrtle Beach Harley – Davidson Rally.
The arts and craft vendors at the event are most anticipated too, besides the fantastic food of course. Over time, the vendors have grown in numbers plus they all hold something that one could take along with you as a souvenir of the incredible experience at the festival. Moreover, if you pay a visit to it, you’ll be free to enjoy the sunrise from a balcony at a beautiful and vast resort. At the same time as you are in the region of Little River, bear in mind that there certainly are numerous choices for lodging accommodations, including hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and even beautiful resorts, accessible from the Bluegreen corporation.
