Civil War Sayings

Can we discuss politics peacefully?

I have been a democrat, am a republican now. And while we me have honest disagreements, I am just really saddened by how violently insulting and flaming we are to each other.

I remember one of Voltaire’s sayings:

“I may disagree with what you say, but defend to the death your right to say it”

And i think that’s part of the problem with the party system it’s become a psycho-social war, between power grubbing politicians, instead of a tool to focus our country on important issues.

But I just would prefer we be civil and polite with each other. Why not show respect, so we all may earn it.

Just my 2 cents.

There is also a saying that says, “You get what you give.” You give respect, you get respect. Or at least you should. So speaking for myself, I’m always polite and considerate of those who ask polite and considerate questions regardless of their point. But if some Koolade drunk comes in here flinging a bunch of ignorant insults, there will be no consideration given.

Bottom line, I genuinely enjoy the polite political discourse, but it’s rare because the questions are so often abusive and insulting.
