Where did they get supplies during the US Civil War?

Hi there!
I’m wondering where I can find information on Civil War supply lines and quartermasters. I have to find information on where supplies came from, how they were transported, and how so much of everything (“I need 5,000 pairs of shoes by tommorow.”) was made.
I’ve looked all over…
Does anyone have any ideas? I’ve gotta get a school project done… so thanks if anyone answers!

The South would have had less supplies because the north would likely not sell the south any manufactured goods. The South did get some through blockades from England and possibly other countries.

The main problem was roads and rails to get the goods to the troops. Many times, supplies languished in storage for lack of transportation to get them to the front lines.

Private sellers known as Sutlers, would go by wagon very close to the front and sell their supplies, leave and re-supply. Much of what they sold was not military issue but they did a brisk business.

There were also a lot of unscrupulous suppliers at least for the North. It was said that you could sell the Federal Government just about anything at any price and many did just that regardless of condition or quality.

Times haven’t changed all that much, I guess.
