On Architecture as an Oppurtunity to Spain’s History and Culture
Like other countries all over the world, the changes in Spain’s architectural trends say a lot about what occurred to them through the centuries. Spain is influenced by a lot of cultures which they intermingled with through the course of their history, and this is very visible with the kind of varied architectural styles that they have then as yet. One of the grounds why a lot of people love to visit Spain is that you can still teach a lot about Spain’s history by going around the well-maintained tourist spots and historical sights.
As a first time tourist in Spain, it may be quite of a discouraging task to find your way around and to discover all of the amazing architectural structures on your own. If you’re visiting Spain for the first time, you’ll be pleased to know that there are a lot of important information about the country available online, and most of it can be had for free. Before going to Spain, it would probably be best to learn a few key phrases earlier than leaving so that you can be equipped for any eventualities; Rocket Spanish is an example of the many free language educational websites on the internet. Rocket Spanish is a Computer Assisted Language Learning that can help you speak Spanish fluently.
Spain’s architecture is something to be accepted; Spain’s dedication to preserving their cultural heritage by preserving old architectural structures is also very admirable. The buildings are simple, but they definitely already have a specific idea; such as, the structures in Balearic Islands are used as tombs and defensive structures to proscribe invading tribes. Other prehistoric buildings also include the walled villages in Santa Tecla and Avila which, extremely enough, show something akin to urban planning because of the way the houses and streets are arranged in coherent grids.
Roman influences can be seen in many cultures around the world, and Spain is no exemption; the Roman influences in their structures translate to lighthouses, aqueducts, churches, and cemeteries. It is during these times when many churches were set up like the temples of Cordoba, on top of Christian cemeteries and burial places. Bridges were also built, the most famous and best-preserved of which is the Aqueduct of Segovia which can still be visited up till now.
As Spain becomes more affected by French and German styles of architecture, buildings leaned towards a more Gothic type of influence. Then again, things alter and so does the architectural trends in Spain; Roman influence was bit by bit changed by Gothic influence. For itself, the Cathedral of Avila is considered to be the primary cathedral exhibiting Gothic influences in its design.
Aside from architecture, there are other things to enjoy in Spain which will also give you a better appreciation of their culture. It’s quite interesting how much you can figure out of a country’s history just by looking at the trend of architectural designs around their landscape.
