How Orbea Mountain BIkes Came to Be
In the world of mountain biking, Orbea mountain bikes are well renowned. This company has its home in a town called Mallavia in the Basque Country, which is in the North of Spain. These days their range includes Orbea mountain bikes, touring bikes and road bikes.
Interestly this mountain bike company actually started life as a weapons and ammunition company. At first, Obrea made pistols, rifles and the cartridges to go in them. All through Spain, Orbea was renowned for the weapons it made. Certianly, by the 1870s, Orbea was one of the most influential and successful companies in the area.
The business carried on manufacturing weapons right up until the end of the Spanish Civil War, when demand for weapons sharply decreased. Also, in 1926, family problems meant that the family business split into two separate companies. Orbea mountain bikes was born from one of the companies brought about by the split of the original company.
As is normal for well known and highly respected biking brands, Orbea has always supported and maintained close links with high profile biking teams. Euskaltel-Euskadi and Xacobeo-Galicia are two of the high profile cycling teams with which Orbea has close ties. However, Orbea mountain bikes has had its own team since 2005.
Nowadays, the company sponsors many biking events throughout Europe and its products are often given as prizes in mountain biking events on the continent. Modern, carbon fibre frames are common on their current designs. Many of their current bikes have frames made entirely of aluminium which is lightweight and very popular.
The future of Orbea mountain bikes seems very stable, especially considering the publicity obtained from sponsorship of high profile events. It supports and sponsors many of Spain’s biggest mountain biking events, which include many treks which are open to large numbers of members of the public. More evidence of their quality, if it were needed is the fact that the bikes are sold in many countries worldwide.
