I have an assignment to creat an imaginary person who partocipated in Civil War. HELP!!!?

I have to create an imagnary character and write in their own words that reflect and comment on their experience of the war.
I may wish to compose letters,diary entries, journal pages,or newspaper article in their voice.
It should be reflect about the Civil War and able to imagine what it was like for an ordinary person to participate in such tremendous historical events.

I have no idea what should I for this assignment and actually I don’t have enough time. Plz HELP ME as possible as soon.

p.s you may also choose the character’s name,backgroud,experience,and story etc.

How about a real character from my own ancestors?

I had a great-great uncle who was captured at the Battle of Vicksburg, fighting for the Confederacy, and was put in prison at Nashville until he took an oath not to fight again. He was released in the dead of winter to walk home to his small hometown just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, almost two hundred miles to the east of Nashville. He and some other released prisoners walked across the Cumberland Plateau, crossed rivers swollen by winter rains and melting snow, had to sleep in abandoned barns and corn cribs, beg food from farmers who had none to spare and snare rabbits since the rules of his release would not allow him to carry his rifle or pistol with which he could have taken game. Two men with him were frozen to death while they slept and one just went to sleep from simple exhaustion and starvation and never got up in the morning.

He made it all the way home and saw his family and wife. His children were so happy to see him, but he told his wife that the cruelty he had suffered at the hands of his captors changed his mind about the oath and he would go on to Virginia to serve the Confederacy by fighting with Lee’s Army of Virginia. He set out in the late winter and traveled some 250 miles north to join Lee’s Army and serve out the War with that army. When the War ended, he returned home and practiced medicine for the remainder of his life and built the first hospital in that small Tennessee Valley town.

This is a true story and will make a nice story as it has a ring of truth that no made up story can every quite get right. Use it if you like. It would be nice told as a series of pages in journal, perhaps a journal found by someone in this century in an old family homeplace or a trunk in the attic.
