Caution Recommended For International Travel: Civil Wars Threatens Mid-East
One must be aware of events in the Middle East if they want to travel in the area. Currently, there are a numberof different situations that are affecting states all over Europe, Asia and Africa. Every day, the tide is turning and new developments are made, for better or for worse. People would be wise to carry passports and visas with them, though, regardless of situation.
One place where protests are transpiring is Saudi Arabia, where the populace call for more freedom and pardoning of prisoners. The Saudi leadership has forces within Bahrain trying to quiet protests there, and thus, the Saudi demonstrators are also standing in solidarity with the Bahraini populace. Though they are petitioning for their rights, they still fear for their safety and are doing what is within their power to keep their names away from the press in order to keep themselves and their loved ones safe from backlash.
Human rights of citizens are being violated, and visitors fear they will end up in the middle of conflict between Saudis and their leadership. For foreigners in the country, keeping your visa Saudi Arabia on your person is an additional measure of security, though not a guarantee of being in the clear if things get out of hand as they have in multiple other situations throughout the Middle East.
Libya’s future is up in the air, as despite NATO’s investment, unrest among tribal contingents may persist. With the likelihood of further upheaval, the safety of the average citizen is far from certain.
In Egypt, the state of affairs is improving, since former leader Mubarak and his sons have been removed from power and detained because of the killings in Tahrir Square. After 30 years, this is a proud time for the country, but the road forward is still not a simple one, and the country is still attempting to recover from the previous period.
