Civil War Gingerbread

civil war gingerbread
Can you finish this marching song?

So, a few years ago, I was on a field trip to Angel Island with my class. We had to pretend to be part of the US Military during the Civil War, and one of my friend’s started singing a marching song. It went like ‘Left, left, left my wife and 49 kids in a house of starvation without any gingerbread think I did right,’ and then I can’t remember the rest. Anybody know it? Or know of a way I can find it?? I would ask my friend, but we moved away from each other and I can’t find him :( Any help I would greatly appreciate :D

I learned it this way in marching band.

Left, left, Left my wife and my 49 kids on the verge of starvation without any gingerbread
Did I do right, right
Right by my country by golly I had a good job and I left, left
Left my wife and my 49 kids…..
