im a drummer boy in a reenactment unit and am thinking about investing in a non-fireable cap and ball pistol for looks for my uniform and was wondering if it would be authentic to do so

No. Their only duty was to play a rhythm that ever soldier knew so that the soldiers could hear the generals orders without the general screaming at the top of his lungs (they still wouldn’t have heard him)
