Is “civil war” the right expression in English language?
What is the word in English language for the war between people of the same nation (same ethnicity), even if they do not have the same citizenship? Civil war?
For instance the war between Athens and Sparta in Ancient Greece (Peloponessian War, Greeks vs Greeks belonging to different city-states).
Or the war between North and South Korea, North and South Vientam, China and Taiwan.
I think “civil war” is the war between people who have the same citizenship not the same ethnicity, e.g. “civil war in Yugoslavia” between Serbs and Croats (different ethnicities! )
Civil War.
In the British Isles we had a civil war between the Cavaliers and Roundheads which culminated in the execution of Charles I on 30 January 1649.
There was a civil war in the United States of America in the Nineteenth Century. http://americancivilwar.com/tl/timeline.html
Where people are not of the same nation, it is not civil war.
