Civil War Explosives

civil war explosives
I have a very dear friend who is actually the biological father of my 23 year old daughter. He has never met?

I have re-established contact with him for the past six months and we talk for hours daily online as well as numerous phone calls. He would like to visit Australia on 3 month tourist visa to stay with us and meet his daughter. Unfortunately though back in 1992 when South africa was undergoing political change, there was a lot of fear amongst the farmers (he is a farmer) of a land grab and masscres of farmers as what was and is happening in Zimbabwe, he joined the AWB as a means of protection and was caught with stockpiles of weapons and explosives. The weapons were in case of a civil war which many thought at that time would happen and the explosives were for destroying the farm should he be forced to hand it over. He was sentenced to 8 years with four suspended and only actually served 5 months. This was 15 years ago and he has had no involvement with the AWB since. We are very concerned that this will prevent him from getting a visa. Please can anyone advise?

if a good case can be presented to aussie immigration (if they raise concerns), he may be allowed to visit; the political climate has certainly changed since those days
