Civil War Dysentery

civil war dysentery
How common is dysentry today?

Ok… now dysentry is no way to die… i’ve read its really bad, it can result in severe diarrhea containing mucus and/or blood in the feces with fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, dysentery can be fatal. In some caustic occasions, vomiting of blood, severe abdominal pain, fever, and shock….
Around 44,500 people died at the American Civil War as a result of dysentry….Francis Drake is said to have died from dysentry too… but is dysentry still going strong today? is it still common? i never hear about it on the news or anything..

It is still common everywhere EXCEPT the first nations which have clean, public (mostly) water supply. And proper sewage disposal is a big factor too. President Carter has been promoting help for certain African nations quite successfully. This helps with avoiding trachoma as well as dysentery. Zimbabwe has a terrible time. Kenya too.
