How did the China Communist manage to win the Nationalists during civil war?
Esp. they were leading guerrilla warfare and any insights on the disparity of weapons and military strength, morale, people and western power support will most useful.
One of the main reasons was that the communists avoided any major expenditures of men and equipment during WWII while the Nationalist forces lost 3 million plus men. Soviet assistance at the close of the war was also a major factor.
I have read somewhere (I can’t find it right now) that just before the war ended, the Soviet Union received $1 billion in military equipment from the US (part of the agreement that the USSR would attack declare war on Japan), but with the war ending prematurely due to Hiroshima and Nagasaki this equipment was turned over to the communist forces in China.
The main reason that the Nationalist Forces lost was that the West was tired of war and not interested in actually fighting another war right away, the efforts to stop Soviet meddling would have to have been huge undertakings (Soviet efforts in both Asia and Europe were quite widespread).
The comment on the communist concentration upon the standard Chinese farmer is quite correct, socialists and communists always go after the “peasants” in a society, be they just poor, enslaved, etc. (Nazi Germany, USSR, North Vietnam, PRC, etc.).
