Civil War Charlotte

civil war charlotte
Is Charlotte, NC a culturally diverse and fun place to live?

I am originally from NY and I have been living in Richmond, VA for the past 2-3 years. I really do not like it here. I am mixed race and while I have people tell me I am attractive, I don’t fit in here. Everyone here is either white or black. People look at me all the time, I can see wondering “what I am.” There isn’t very much race mixing. It is a boring city. Richmonders think they are special because of their history but their history is all about the Civil War!

There are job opportunities in my company for Charlotte, NC. I hear that Charlotte is like another Atlanta. I need someone’s honest, knowledgable opinion about Charlotte because I don’t want to move to another “southern” area like Richmond. I want to live where it is highly culturally and ethincally diverse, and the groups mix. While the northeast is my first choice, I also want to live where I can afford to buy a house!

Would love to hear your opinions on Charlotte based on what I am looking for. Thanks

Im a 20 year old black male. I’ve lived in Charlotte the past three years and now I live in Atlanta and let me just say Charlotte is a smaller version of Atlanta but more laid back and less traffic and has as much diversity. When I went to high school there for the Charlotte Meck School District there were suprisingly a lot of mixed races in high schools, but I will admit there are some places with only one race, I live in the University City district and its as culturally diverse as possible with college students and UNC-Charlotte growing as a top University. Basically all I can really tell you is that Charlotte is growing more and more, theyre gonna get a NASCAR Hall of Fame, theyre home of the Carolina Panthers who have been to the SuperBowl, They also have Central Piedmont Community College ( which I went to by the way) that is actually the best community college in the carolinas. As someone here said there are some interesting clubs as well. I think youll like it, I havent had any problems with racist people though, but I would say live in the city instead of the suburbs, youll enjoy it more especially if you live in university city. And yeah a lot of people from the North are coming down here so you wont feel alone. Dont forget to visit the Charlotte websites. Good Luck with your moving decision.
