Did the Americans from the Revolutionary or Civil War use spears & axes for battle?

Did the Americans from the Revolutionary or Civil War use spears, axes, or clubs during combat back then?

While spears were not used in either of the conflicts, axes & spades were indeed used. Axes were common tools carried by soldiers and when the meelee ensued, they were used as meelee weapon.

On a side note, Gen. George Washington serioulsy considered using bow & arrows when the supply of gun powder and musket balls ran low for the continental army.
