The book “Killer Angels” was about the soldiers who fought in the Civil War. The movie “Gettysburg” is based on “Killer Angels”. I didn’t read the book closely enough to notice if he favored one side or the other. I recommend that you do so.

As to similarities between the American Revolution and the Civil War:

Well, the Revolution was really a type of civil war. In the American Revolution, the 13 colonies had complaints that they felt the English government was not addressing; indeed, King George III himself seemed determined to make things worse. Afterward, the colonies took up arms against the King that they had earlier professed loyalty to. In the Civil War (1861-1865), several Southern states banded together because they felt under-represented and also because they did not want outsiders telling them what to do.
