Italian Renaissance Artwork!!?
Can you give me some examples of art from the renaissance that speak something about war / civil war / corruption / etc?
GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS!!!
Didn’t Renaissance supposed to be…a revival of intellectual and artistic achievement, a revival of classical arts and literature? Renaissance masters celebrated mythology and christianity and put them into allegories, they studied the linear and spatial perspective, the light, the color and had a pretty optimistic point of view on life (due to economic and cultural flourish).
Interesting. Words like civil war and corruption don’t pretty seem to fit in. In generally, it hardly was a theme for their artworks. Yet, they praised the crusades. So it it was war, it depicted the mighty crusades and battle scenes (The Battle of Anghiari by da Vinci, The Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello)…And they also loved martyrs (Saint Sebastian by Antonello da Messina). Some torture scenes can be seen in Albrecht Durer engraved works. Corruption is put in subtil manners in some publican or some priest portrait, in association with specific symbols.
These themes (as revolutionary context), were approached more directly in the Mannerism and Baroque, Romanticism, when Europe starts its modern era and claims democratic rights.
